From arch. Laudini’s interview, the interpreter of the “entrance space” proposed at Cersaie 2019, Bologna – Italy.

Which was the general concept that led you to design the entrance architectures of the stand?

The concept on which I based the planning of the exhibition spaces is narration. Knowing how to tell a story through images and letting the customer experience the product firsthand is essential for the transmission of the guidelines of a company. Situating the two “Entrance Spaces” in a prominent position is the first step towards the knowledge of this new concept. Getting in touch with Oikos put me in a new world and, like every news, I’ve been flooded with hundreds of questions: what can a door represent? Which are the main concepts determining its shape and function? Which is the task that a door must fulfill in the modern society and which was its function in the past architecture? A series of thoughts led me to develop a wider project, an entrance project, not only a moving surface that has always been disguised but a real “place”, a “middle” environment, a demiurgic architecture which connects the inside and the outside, which unites, separates, introduces and tells. A portion of space of new conception that breaks the borders of the different environments, one permeating the other in a single architectural nuance.

How did you study the interpretation of the entrance with natural stone? Which aspects did you want to highlight?

The natural stone brings with it the uniqueness of a product that cannot be reproducible, there’s basically a unique piece in every surface, it gives the same material strength and the elegance of a painting originated from matter and time. Oikos great technological skills ensure that this element, being an archetype of the architectural culture, can be used for the surface of the security doors at the service of the technique developed by the company, leader in this field, during these years. A security door cladded with natural stone is unique even if it is reproduced, it becomes an unrepeatable and eternal work like the material of which the doors are composed. The concepts of “Stone” and “Steel” are deeply-rooted in our being and they convey clear and essential concepts of solidity and durability.

How did you study the interpretation of the entrance with ceramic? Which aspects did you want to highlight?

The ceramic element affects the technical and practical fields, bringing with it the ability to decorate and interpret different surfaces with a material that, due to its technical features, has a great resistance to environmental agents. Oikos has always considered this material in a personal way, creating a model that has become a characteristic of its production. I worked on this model in order to interpret new shapes, new geometries, “standing out” elements from the surfaces or digging linear gullies to obtain new functions.

More in general, what do you think of planning the entrance of a building/house? Which elements are essential for you when designing an entrance architecture?

The most important element in the entrance architecture is the interpretation of the space on the basis of the project and client. Outside the entrance is for communicating the presence of the owner, inside it decorates and puts the guest and the visitor comfortable. From outside it has to express solidity with style and elegance telling about the identity of the person who lives inside. Passing through the “entrance space” means passing a personal threshold letting the world come in. For this reason it’s important that what separates these two “worlds” is not only a “blade” but an architectural environment.

What can do the difference?

I’m sure that the difference is due to the product and project together, the first one can hardly excel without the other one. Oikos well-known leadership is walking down unusual paths exploring architectural places which have never been described before.
